No objection to the addition of the words "as approved by the Director".

The Director is advised by a Board of Control which includes the Heads of Government and Grant Schools. Admittedly the syllabus for the School Certificate examination is at present too narrow. The Board of Control has been for some time considering widening the scope of the examination and a report is expected in time to amend the syllabus in 1947- the amendments to come into force for the July, 1949, examination.

2. It is hoped that the foregoing comments will enable you to approve

the additional expenditure involved.

3. The last words of Section 5 of the Introduction should read

"Under Section 29 of this Code".
